This half term the maths department have been able to link up with local Further Education provider Blackpool Sixth Form to deliver masterclasses to year 10 and year 11 pupils.
The top sets in both years were taken to visit the Sixth Form College and work on Higher GCSE topics with some excellent teachers who were able to really make the pupils think in different ways. Hopefully this will encourage our pupils to seriously consider studying mathematics at A-Level as an option when they leave school. We were also lucky enough to have Rob Fisher, acting Head of Department, visit us to do a walking talking mock with 60 year 11 pupils in the main hall. The engagement was superb, and they have definitely picked up some new techniques and exam tips during the session. It was fantastic to see so many ‘wow’ or ‘lightbulb’ moments happening throughout all three of the sessions.
We know the pupils really appreciate these sessions and we are looking forward to organising more in the near future. A big thank you to all the staff at Blackpool Sixth Form for their continued support.
