Ofsted Monitoring Visit

6th May 2016

Dear All

On 30th and 31st March 2016, South Shore Academy received its second monitoring visit from HMI.  I am extremely pleased to report that this was a great success with the Lead Inspector clear that the leadership team was taking effective action overall and that standards are rising across the school in all areas.  The monitoring visit focused on all areas of academy life and included: visits to lessons observing teaching and learning and to look at pupil’s work, meetings with pupils, meetings with staff, governors and the Trust, and scrutiny of all areas of the academy.  The outcome of the visit was extremely positive with lots of helpful suggestions to ensure that our improvements continue.  I wanted to share with you some of the highlights of the report, the rest of which you can read in full here:

‘Senior leaders work together extremely well to drive improvement

across the Academy’.

‘Attendance is higher than at the last inspection, behaviour continues

to improve, particularly in the classroom, and teachers now apply Academy

policies with greater consistency’.

‘…more pupils are on track to achieve good grades across a broad range of

subjects, than was previously the case’.

Parent/Carer Survey

Please do look out for all the positive things that are happening in the Academy on both our twitter feed (@SSABlackpool) and our website.  We also intend to provide you with an academy newsletter each half-term, so that you can be updated on the opportunities that your children are engaging in.

We have had record attendance at the parent/carer evenings this academic year and it has been a pleasure to meet so many of you at these events and to receive the positive feedback about the improvements that we have made to these evenings.  I look forward to continuing to work in partnership with you and meeting as many of you as possible at the various events that we have taking place.
