A number of year 8 students attended a KS3 Chemistry Quadrathlon at Lancaster University yesterday.
There were four events: making the longest bogey (polymer slime), testing for drugs (chromatography), making gold coins (displacement) and iodine clock. South Shore Academy won the iodine clock round – the time we had to get the reaction to work at was 1 minute 41 seconds and we got 1 min 40.6 seconds!
The Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were able to use university level equipment and learn about different practical techniques used in real-life Chemistry.
Well Done Team South shore!
